What you will learn in this workshop?


How to navigate major ligand-detected and protein-observed techniques specifically for drug discovery.


STD-NMR and WATER-LOGSY to identify binding epitopes and determine which parts of a molecule interact with the protein.


Specialized Profiling: Utilizing CPMG for T2 relaxation studies and leveraging the sensitivity of 19F NMR for rapid screening.


Binding Quantitative Analysis: How to set up protein-ligand titrations and use the resulting data to calculate Chemical Shift Perturbations (CSP) and binding affinity constants ($K_d$).


Basics of sample preparation strategies, setting up experiments and data analysis using bruker topspin aoftware


Workshop Structure

Day: 1

Introduction to NMR in drug discovery, major NMR techniques used, Overview of Ligand dtected and protein observed techniques, Sampme preparation strategies, Important things to know on running NMR experiments etc will be discussed.

Day 2:

STD NMR theorey, sample preperation instruction, set up of experiment and data analysis.

Day 3:

WATER-LOGSY Theory, sample preperation instruction, experimental setup and data analysis.

Day 4:

CPMG and 19F NMR: theorey, sample preperation instruction, setup and data analysis.

Day 5:  

Protein Observed NMR Techniques. How to set up and acquire protein ligand NMR titration and how to use the data to calculate CSP and Kd values.

Meet your Instructor!


Dr. Muhammed Shafeeek O.H. is a Researcher/Scientist-III and the Facility Manager for the MSC NMR facility at the University of Arizona, where he also serves as the Lab Manager for the Walti Lab. He holds an Integrated Ph.D. in Solution and Solid-state NMR Spectroscopy from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram.

With nearly a decade of rigorous experience in NMR techniques, Dr. Shafeeek brings a wealth of expertise in structural biology and molecular dynamics. During his doctoral research in the Bio-NMR Lab at IISER, he specialized in investigating "dark" or invisible states associated with complex biological problems and applied advanced methods like CPMG-relaxation dispersion NMR to study protein properties. His extensive portfolio also includes collaborative solid-state NMR research spanning proteins, polymers, and nanoparticles.
